Terrorism and counterterrorism

With particular reference to the Dutch case.

This Honours class is about Terrorism and counterterrorism. The idea is to present students with a variety of perspectives on terrorism and counterterrorism by experts in the field, ranging from philosophers, historians, legal scholars, security experts, scholars of Islam, experts on media studies and other relevant areas. Questions that will be addressed are: what are the most important forms of terrorism? What (if any) is the relationship between religion and terrorism? How should the state reaction to the terrorist challenge? What changes in our constitutional and institutional structure are necessary to cope with terrorism? This course will also highlight the Dutch situation with regard to terrorism.
